How HomeMath prices a paver job

HomeMath multiplies the area by the price of the pavers alone and by the labor to lay them, both per square foot from Lawn Love's paver patio guide: concrete pavers $4–$6, brick pavers $4–$8, natural stone $7–$16, flagstone $13–$30, and labor $5–$15. Permeable pavers have one installed range, Bob Vila's $10–$40, with no split. That is the estimate for a patio. A walkway is priced at Lawn Love's walkway guide figure for its paver (concrete pavers $7–$16, clay brick pavers $10–$19, natural stone pavers $13–$36 per square foot), and a driveway, or a walkway of flagstone or permeable pavers, at Lawn Love's range for the whole job with any paver: patio $8–$24, walkway $13–$27, driveway $10–$40 per square foot; the paver at its own price shows beside it. The do-it-yourself cost is the pavers with 10% waste, the paver base for the job's depth (4 in for a patio, 4 in for a walkway, 6 in for a driveway) with 20% for compaction and the 1 in sand bed in 0.5 cu ft bags, the joint sand by SEK Surebond's coverage, and a day of a plate compactor. In metric the ranges are shown per square meter.

The published rules it uses: US customary units; metric conversion; paver prices; paver base depths and coverage. Their sources, and how HomeMath tests every result, are on the about page.

What does a patio, walkway or driveway cost by size?

Lawn Love puts the average paver patio at 280 sq ft and $3,350, with most between $2,275 and $6,950, and $8–$24 per square foot for any paver. The last column is that whole-job range for each job.

HomeMath's estimate by paver takes walkways at Lawn Love's walkway guide price for each paver, and patios at the patio guide's pavers plus labor. Lawn Love gives a driveway no price by paver, so the driveway row uses the patio prices; a driveway also needs a deeper base, which the do-it-yourself cost counts.

What does a paver walkway cost?

Lawn Love's paver walkway guide (updated October 28, 2026) gives $13–$27 per square foot, labor and materials, for a walkway: a narrow path has more edge and more cuts for its area than a patio. A 4 × 25 ft walkway is $1,300–$2,700 at that range. By paver, the same guide gives:

Paver walkways installed, per sq ft (Lawn Love)
PaversPer sq ft4 × 25 ft walkway
Concrete pavers$7–$16$700–$1,600
Clay brick pavers$10–$19$1,000–$1,900
Slate pavers$10–$24$1,000–$2,400
Natural stone pavers$13–$36$1,300–$3,600

Pick Walkway and the calculator prices concrete, brick and natural stone pavers at these figures, with the patio guide's pavers plus labor beside them; flagstone and permeable pavers, which the walkway guide doesn't list, get the $13–$27 range for any paver.

What does a paver driveway cost?

Lawn Love gives $10–$40 per square foot for a paver driveway, so a 16 × 40 ft two-car driveway is $6,400–$25,600. A driveway needs a deeper base than a patio, which is why its range runs higher. Pick Driveway and the calculator leads with that range, with your paver at patio prices beside it; the do-it-yourself cost counts a paver base 6 in deep.

How do I estimate a paver patio by hand?

A 280 sq ft patio (14 × 20 ft) in concrete pavers:

  1. Pavers: 280 × $4–$6 = $1,120–$1,680.
  2. Labor: 280 × $5–$15 = $1,400–$4,200.
  3. Installed: $2,520–$5,880, $9–$21 per sq ft.
  4. Check against Lawn Love's range for the job: $2,240–$6,720.

How much does it cost to lay pavers yourself?

Laid yourself, the labor goes and the materials and tools stay. The table prices concrete pavers at $4–$6 per sq ft with 10% waste, and Lawn Love's bag prices: $5 for paver base, $4 for sand, $22 for polymeric joint sand, plus $83 for a day of a plate compactor ($333 a week).

For a large base, bulk gravel by the ton is often cheaper than bags: the paver base calculator gives the tons and the paver calculator the number of pavers and pallets to order. A poured driveway is priced in the concrete driveway cost calculator.

What should a paver quote spell out?

These move a quote, because the estimate is a national range. Ask for them as separate lines:

  • Digging out and hauling soil, or removing an old patio or slab
  • The base depth: a driveway or soft soil needs more
  • Edge restraint, curves, steps and borders, which add cuts and hand work
  • Joint sand, sealing, and the paver line and pattern you choose

Type each quote's total into the quote check to see its price per square foot next to the estimate.

What do pavers cost in metric?

Switch to metric and the calculator takes meters and shows prices per square meter, the same US ranges converted: $86.11–$258 per m² for a paver patio and $96.88–$226 per m² for concrete pavers installed.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to install pavers?
$8–$24 per square foot for a paver patio, by Lawn Love's paver patio guide (updated December 27, 2025), which puts the average 280 sq ft patio at $3,350 and most at $2,275–$6,950. By the paver, concrete pavers come to $9–$21 per sq ft installed: $4–$6 for the pavers and $5–$15 for labor.
How much do concrete pavers cost?
$4–$6 per square foot for the pavers alone, and $9–$21 installed once Lawn Love's $5–$15 per sq ft of labor is added. Concrete and brick start at the same price; brick runs to $8, natural stone to $16 and flagstone to $30 a square foot for the stone alone.
How much does a paver walkway cost to install?
$13–$27 per square foot, labor and materials, by Lawn Love's paver walkway guide (updated October 28, 2026). A 4 × 25 ft walkway (100 sq ft) is $1,300–$2,700 at that range, and $900–$2,100 at the patio guide's concrete paver and labor prices. The same walkway guide gives concrete pavers $7–$16, clay brick pavers $10–$19, slate pavers $10–$24, natural stone pavers $13–$36 per sq ft installed, so the walkway is $700–$1,600 in concrete pavers: the figure the calculator leads with for a concrete paver walkway.
How much does a paver driveway cost?
$10–$40 per square foot by Lawn Love, so a two-car driveway of 16 × 40 ft (640 sq ft) is $6,400–$25,600. Lawn Love gives no driveway price by paver, so the calculator leads with that range and shows the paver at its patio price beside it: concrete pavers at $9–$21 per sq ft come to $5,760–$13,440; a driveway also needs a deeper base, 6 in or more, which the do-it-yourself rows count. A poured driveway is priced in the concrete driveway cost calculator.
What is the cost to install concrete pavers myself?
For a 280 sq ft patio, about $2,711–$3,371: the concrete pavers with 10% waste at $4–$6 per sq ft, 224 bags of paver base at $5, 47 bags of sand at $4, 4 to 6 bags of joint sand at $22 and a day of a plate compactor at $83, Lawn Love's prices. Bags make the base the biggest line; by the ton it is 6.4 tons, $161–$225 of crusher run at Fixr's $25–$35 a ton before delivery.
How much do permeable pavers cost?
$10–$40 per square foot, materials and labor, by Bob Vila (published April 30, 2024), which gives no split between the two. A permeable paver lets water through its joints into an open base, so the base is deeper and built from clean stone, which is part of the higher price.
What share of a paver job is labor?
More than half on most jobs. Lawn Love gives $5–$15 per square foot for labor against $4–$6 for concrete pavers, so for concrete pavers labor is 56% of the low estimate and 71% of the high one. Digging out, the base, edging and cuts are in the labor.
How do I check a paver quote?
Type its total into the quote check: the calculator divides it by the area and shows the price per square foot next to the estimate. Ask for the excavation, base depth, edge restraint, joint sand, sealing and removal of an old surface as separate lines, so two quotes compare like for like.
What does a paver patio cost per square meter?
About $86.11–$258 per square meter, Lawn Love's US range per square foot converted (1 m² is about 10.76 sq ft), and $96.88–$226 for concrete pavers. They are US prices in dollars. Switch the calculator to metric to enter meters.
